Near Disaster

Happy to report my recovery goes well - as you can see - and in January I will be ready to take complete charge of our work.

Hard news in July. The grim reaper dealt me three of his face cards. A brain tumor came first, then two other often fatal ailments with equally nasty names. Bruce and I spent months in Lima, while I was operated, treated and started down the long road to recovery. During this time we left the running of our projects to our able Peruvian and Panamanian staff, and our talented long term volunteers. Our children never suffered as a result of this interruption, and in some ways our little organisation functioned better than when Bruce and I were available. In other ways the cost to our mission has been dear. Unable to keep our appointments in Ecuador and Panama; our lack of on site reporting provoked the withdrawal of our partner in these projects; and Bruce has had to carry this by himself. We also were unable to continue with plans to immanently open centres in two additional countries; and as a result our potential partners seem now unavailable
The generous contributions we received during the first half of the year (thank you Brave Heart, Boulder Financial, Enscicon, Kinder Zon, Gavin, BANNED and all you others) suddenly dried up. Even Bruce's income, usually our source of last resort, had to be diverted to cover my medical expenses. His credit lines have gotten us through this part of 2006. ..
In 2001 we began as volunteers using our own funds. Now 40 schools and several thousand students later, we slowly spread through the Americas.
